An Easter Midnight Prayer
April 13, 2025QUESTION:
“Why are you untying the colt? THE LORD HAS NEED OF HIM! LK 19:31-34 MT-21:1-3 MK.11:1-6
Is it not amazing how somethings just turn out in life and with the most unlikely person? History is full of this unlikeliness. Just look in that dusty old Bible. It is the book of human unlikelihood and see how many times God picked the most unlikely person to fulfill His plan because “The Master has need of you…”
There was Mary the Mother of Jesus with Joseph. Then there were the disciples. . Only Noah knew how to build an ark. Only David knew how to fling a stone and Gidion with a small army defeated a great army.
How about in our history when only Nixon could go to China. Only Lincoln could write and give the Gettysburg address. Only Frodo could carry the ring and only Tolkien could write about it. Or a man from Poland becomes Pope John Paul II the saint or even a 15-year-old boy named Carlos.
And finally on Palm Sunday Why not have Jesus call on a donkey?
THE CALL
If Jesus could choose such an animal to ride into Jerusalem, don’t you think He is still untying people from their stubborn donkey lives of sin, addictions, self-pity and rejection with deep emotions and hurts that tie us up and keep us from being called a disciple of Jesus
QUESTION
How many times have you heard His call? How many times have you looked back at your life and thought: How did I do that? How did that happen?
“The Master had need of me”
and somehow by looking back I can see this. Even though at the time I almost didn’t answer the call. Too stubborn? Maybe too scared? Maybe I liked being tied up to my old sins’ old habits, old additions? Being tied up can become too comfortable you know because then you can blame instead of LISTENING:
“The Master still has need of me.”
THE SOLUTION
Like the donkey, it is my weaknesses that God calls out of me, to heal, to save, to love, like no one else can. But again, like so many others I may question the Lord as if maybe He has missed something about my life and the situation. It’s called a John the Baptist moment: “You want me to baptize You?” Or one of those Peter principal moments when all else fails “l tell God what He should do” Right! Or when I am going in the wrong direction God does a Saul to Paul move and knocks me off my high horse of self-righteousness. Then, as with the donkey I can be led back to “Where the Master needs me” How else is Jesus going to ride into people’s hearts and lives if we don’t carry Him? WHERE do you think we get the strength to answer the call?
ANSWER
Have you ever looked upon Jesus on the cross and suddenly see no arms? I did. In fact, I actually saw them fall off and they didn’t want to go back until I realized they wanted to be attached to my shoulders. “The Lord called me from birth, from my mother’s womb He gave me my name.” Is. 49 Why? because God knew that eventually… He would have A REAL need for me.
RESOLUTIONI
If God had not a destiny, a purpose that only I could fulfill then why else would I be here? Don’t believe me then go ask the donkey! You may seem worthless insignificant in the world’s eyes but not in God’s eyes.
God our HEAVENLY FATHER has had a plan His Eternal Dream (Eph.1:4-12) and we all have been given a part and that part carries with it a cross.
We didn’t create it nor asked for it. But we were privileged to be given one and any cross that is given is given for a reason and not without special gifts. One day you will know why it is good to be you. And when that day comes and it will come often it may not be about changing the world but just simply loving the person in front of you because by your cross, your talent, your weaknesses you will prove that Jesus really did redeem and save us – one person at a time.
“THE MASTER HAS NEED OF YOU…FOR ONLY HE CAN RIDE A STUBBORN OLD YOU!
If you LET HIM.
TOOL BOX
So, when you hear those overlooked words about the donkey on this Holy Heah Palm Sunday may the hidden meaning of what todays church calls “an evangelical faith” allow you to be untied and led back to the Lord. Then see how your life can make a difference and indeed has made a difference. Because The Master was very pleased that you, only you, could have answered His need He placed in you!
So, giddy up and remember there is more to the ride than you think. It’s in how you carry your Cross that shows how much you love and grateful…
“For it is in His Kingdom and Power and Glory” LET’S Ride! And trust that He knows where He is going. [email protected]
